God’s Pillar of Fire Now Inhabits His People

In the Garden of Eden, God lived in close proximity with people. That’s how it was meant to be, and everything was cozy.

That changed when humanity became corrupted—now God couldn’t get too close to people, or else His radiance would strike them dead.

But God still wanted to be close to mankind, which is why He lived in the tabernacle. The tabernacle was a tent that the Israelites took everywhere they went and would set up right in the middle of their camp. It was His home.

During those days, God expressed Himself as a cloud column during the day, and a pillar of fire at night. (Think of how epic it would be to see a pillar of fire constantly blazing in the center of camp each night.)

But then in Acts 2, Jesus’s followers saw a fiery presence appear in the middle of the room and then break off into multiple tongues of flame that each floated over to them and rested on them. It’s almost like God was saying, “Remember when I used to live in the tabernacle? Well now I live in each of you—you guys are my home now.”

Ahhh, God and mankind could finally experience the same coziness they enjoyed in the Garden of Eden long ago.
