Zechariah 3

(1) Vision 4: Joshua’s Dirty Clothes Traded for Clean Ones

Then the messenger [angel] showed me Joshua [Jesus], the high priest, who was standing in front of the Existing One’s messenger. The Accuser [Satan] was standing right next to him, accusing him. Then the Existing One told the Accuser,

“I, the Existing One, tell you not to do that, Accuser! Yes, the Existing One who has chosen Jerusalem reprimands you. Can’t you see the fiery-hot brand I just pulled out from the fire?”

Joshua was wearing filthy clothes and standing in front of the messenger. God told the people,

“Take those filthy clothes off of him.”

Then He said,

“See? I took away all your badness and will clothe you with royal clothes.”

Then I said,

“They should also put a fresh turban on his head.”

So they clothed him in a fresh turban and clean clothes while the Existing One’s messenger stood there.

(6) Joshua is Offered Access

The Existing One’s messenger affirmed Joshua, saying,

“The Existing One behind all of creation says,

‘If you conduct yourself in My ways and fulfill the duties I’ve laid out, then you’ll end up governing My house and being put in charge of My courtyards. I’ll give you the same access that everyone else here has.’”

(8) Rest is Coming

“‘Now Joshua, as the high priest, you and your friends sitting in front of you need to listen. You guys are a miraculous sign, because I’ll bring in My servant, the Branch. I’ll put a stone in front of Joshua that has 7 eyes on it, and I’ll engrave something on it. I’ll also remove the badness from that place in a single day. When that time comes, you guys will invite your friends to sit under your vines and fig trees.’”
