Psalm 49 (Rhyming)

(1) Attention Everyone!

I have a message for people everywhere,

Everyone should hear what I’m gonna declare.

To the celebrity and to the Average Joe,

To the rich and those with nothing to show,

My mouth has some wisdom I’d like to impart,

Some insightful thoughts straight from my heart.

I’m ready for this proverb to be conveyed,

So I’ll share my riddle while a harp is played.

(5) Enemy’s Money Can’t Buy Eternal Life

Why be scared in these miserable days?

Though foes surround me with unjust ways?

They trust in abilities that they possess,

And they brag about their financial success.

But they can’t redeem another man’s soul,

No one can pay God that ransom’s toll.

Redeeming a soul has a price too high,

It’s so pricey that you shouldn’t even try.

You can’t buy someone life that doesn’t fade,

The grave is something they’ll never evade.

(10) Everyone Will Die

Both wise men and fools breath a last breath,

Both forfeit their wealth at the time of their death.

They think their estate will always stand,

So they stamp their names on parts of the land.

But humanity’s splendor won’t endure,

Just like animals, our death is sure.

That is the fate for the foolish mind,

And for their successors, close behind.

[Interlude]

(14) My Foes will Die, But God will Save Me

Like sheep, the grave will be the end of them;

Death is the shepherd who will tend to them.

People with character will rule them at dawn,

Their bodies are what the grave will feed on.

They live in mansions right now and right here,

But soon their castles will all disappear.

But God will snatch me from the hand of Sheol,

Yes, He’ll pay my ransom and rescue my soul.

[Interlude]

(16) Don’t Drool Over Wealth, Because the Rich Die too

Don’t be in awe when someone’s wealth grows,

Don’t marvel when his estate overflows.

When he passes away he can’t take a thing,

His riches aren’t items that he can bring.

In life he’ll praise himself for what he’s gained;

And others will celebrate what he has attained.

But he’ll join ancestors who died before,

And at that point he’ll see the light no more.

In all of their glory, humans don’t comprehend,

That like beasts, their lives come to an end.
