Psalm 48 (Rhyming)
(1) God’s City is Beautiful
The Existing One is great and He deserves great praise.
Let’s celebrate Him where His holy mountain lays.
To the north is Mount Zion,* beautiful in height.
Meet the great King’s city that brings the earth delight.
God built a name for Himself in palaces all over town.
He’s known as a stronghold—His reputation of renown.
*Mount Zion is another name for Jerusalem
(4) God Upholds His City
Other kings came to see it just for the view,
So they all gathered and started walking through.
They were all amazed when they saw the display,
But awe struck their hearts and they all ran away.
Agony took over, causing their bodies to quiver,
They felt like a pregnant mother about to deliver.
God, You always steer the east wind on its course,
Wrecking ships from Tarshish using its force.
The rumors we’ve heard of are now in our view,
There in God’s city it’s all coming true.
The Self-Sufficient One over all existence
Upholds His city with endless persistence.
(9) God is Epic
Inside Your temple we saturate our mind,
With the knowledge that You are so kind.
You really do live up to Your name;
The world’s overflowing with Your fame.
Your reputation spans across the land,
Right-ness lives in the palm of Your hand.
Mount Zion and Judah’s daughters should all feel glee,
Rejoicing over Your favorable decree.
(12) Jerusalem’s Splendor Reflects God’s
So walk around Zion and take in the view,
Notice her walls, her towers, and palaces too.
Take her landmarks into consideration,
Then describe them to the next generation.
That’s how God is—forever and always,
He will guide us ‘til the end of our days.
