Song of Songs 2

(1) Female

“I am the rose of the entire Sharon region, the lily of the valleys.”

(2) Male

“My love is like a lily among thorns when compared to the other young ladies.”

(3) Female

“And my lover is like an apricot tree among normal trees when compared to the other young men. I sat down in his shade and took pleasure in it. And his fruit tasted so sweet to me. He brought me to his wine house and waves a flag of love over me. Sustain me with raisin cakes and refresh me apricots, because I’m lovesick. Put your left hand behind my head while you embrace me with your right.

(7) Male

“Women of Jerusalem, I swear to you by the deer and gazelles of the field: don’t arouse love until it pleases.”

(8) Female

“Listen! My lover is aproaching! He’s climbing over the mountains and skipping over the hills like a gazelle or young buck! Now he’s standing outside, looking through the windows and peering through the lattice.

“My lover responds, telling me,

‘Get up, my partner, my beautiful one, and come with me. After all, the winter is over, and the rain has stopped. The flowers have already sprung up. Now’s the time to trim the vines, and listen to the doves! The figs on the fig trees are ripe, and the blossoming vines are giving off their fragrance. So wake up, my partner, my beautiful one, and come with me!’

(14) Male

“Oh, my dove, there you are in the crevices of the cliffside, hiding in the steep rocks. Let me see your form, and let me hear your voice—because your voice is sweet and your form is lovely.”

(15) Jerusalem’s Women

“Catch the foxes for us—those little foxes that are ruining the vineyards when they’re in full bloom!”

(16) Female

“My lover is mine, and I am his. He grazes his flock among the lilies until the cool of the day when the shade is gone. Turn, my lover, and be like a gazelle or young buck on the Bather mountains.”
