Song of Songs 1

(1) Intro

This is the Song of Songs, affiliated with Solomon.

(2) Female:

“I hope you kiss me with your lips! Because your love is better than wine. Your cologne has such a good smell. Your name is as smooth as oil being poured from one jar to another. And that’s why all the young ladies love you. Pull me along behind you—let’s run together! The king has brought me into his bedroom.

(4b) Jerusalem’s Women:

We’ll celebrate you and be happy. We’ll talk more highly of your love than wine. No wonder all the women love you!

(5) Female:

“Oh, women of Jerusalem, I am black but beautiful. I’m like Kedar’s tents or Solomon’s curtains. Don’t stare at me because I’m dark-skinned—I’m sunkissed. My brothers were mad at me and made me take care of the vineyards—yet I haven’t been able to take care of my own vineyard.

“Tell me this, lover of my soul: Where do you pasture your flock? Where do you take them to let them lie down at midday? Because why should I be like someone who hides behind a veil over by the flocks your friends are tending?”

(8) Male:

“If you don’t know, most beautiful woman, then follow the footprints from my flock and pasture your young goats by the shepherds’ tents.”

“Lover, to me, you are like a female horse among Pharaoh’s chariots. Your cheeks look lovely with those braids of yours, and so is your neck with that necklace on it.”

(11) Jerusalem’s Women:

“We’ll make some gold jewelry for you with silver beads!”

(12) Female:

“While the king sits on his couch, I let the fragrance from my perfume fill the room. To me, my lover is like a pouch of myrrh that spends the night nested between my boobs. To me, my lover is like a bunch of henna flowers blossoming in the En Gedi oasis.”

(15) Male:

“And look at how beautiful you are, my lover! Just look at how beautiful you are—your eyes are like doves!”

(16) Female:

“And look at how handsome you are, my lover—and so sweet. Yes, our bed is so lush! The beams of our houses are made of cedar, and the rafters are made of cypress.”
