Song of Songs 6

(1) Jerusalem’s Women:

“Where has your lover gone, most beautiful woman of them all? Where did he go? We can help you look for him.”

(2) Female:

“My lover has gone down to his garden, his bed of spices. He went to feed his flock in the gardens and gather lilies there. I belong to my lover and my lover belongs to me. He’s that man feeding his flock near the lilies.”

(4) Male:

“You’re as beautiful as Tirzah, my darling. [Tirzah was the capital city of the northern kingdom of Israel.] You are as lovely as Jerusalem. You’re as striking as an army marching with their flags. Turn your eyes away from me, because they are emboldening me.

“Your hair is like a flock of goats cascading down from the rocky slopes of Gilead. Your teeth are like a flock of female sheep that have just been washed. Each of them has its twin, and none of them are out of place. Your temples are like a pomegranate slice behind that veil of yours.

“There are 60 queens, 80 mistresses, and a countless number of young women—but my dove, my flawless one, stands out above all of them. She is her mom’s only daughter, and she is pure. When the other young women saw her, they described her as blessed. The queens and mistresses also praise her, saying,

‘Who is that looking out like the dawn? She’s as beautiful as a full moon! She’s as pure as the sun and as striking as an army carrying their flags!

‘We went down to the orchard of nut trees in the valley to see its blossoms. We wanted to see if the vines had sprouts or if the pomegranates had blossoms. Before we could find out, we felt like we were in the presence of royal chariots!’”

(13) Jerusalem’s Women

“Come back, Shulammite woman! [Shulammite means “the perfect.”] Come back, so we can admire you! How long can we stare at the Shulammite as if we were staring at two entities dance at Mahanaim?” [Mahanaim was a place where Jacob saw angels in Genesis 32.]
